In furtherance of the importance of biodiversity conservation and sustainability in the Sultanate of Oman, the Oman Bird Database is the result of a collaboration between the Diwan of the Royal Court and Sultan Qaboos University, represented by the Center for Environmental Studies and Research, and the Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems Research Center to document and conserve the biodiversity of birds in the Sultanate of Oman.
This partnership encompasses bird conservation and monitoring, studies of migratory patterns, research on habitat conditions and their impacts on bird’s health and the creation of a comprehensive and reliable general database of Oman’s bird species. It further involves evaluating the impacts of land management practices and environmental changes such as wetland degradation as well as designing and executing environmental initiatives to boost community involvement and awareness.
