Birds of
OMAN

With a focus on the preservation and sustainable management of biodiversity in the Sultanate of Oman, the Birds of Oman Database is the result of a collaboration between the Diwan of Royal Court and Sultan Qaboos University, specifically the Center for Environmental Studies and Research and the Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems Research Center. The initiative is designed to document, preserve and study the bird’s biodiversity of Oman.

This partnership encompasses bird conservation and monitoring, studies of migratory patterns, research on habitat conditions and their impacts on bird’s health and the creation of a comprehensive and reliable general database of Oman’s bird species. It further involves evaluating the impacts of land management practices and environmental changes such as wetland degradation as well as designing and executing environmental initiatives to boost community involvement and awareness.

This digital platform aims to provide sustainable, integrated data on Oman’s birds. It seeks to conserve these native species using advanced scientific and research-based methodologies to ensure their long-term survival. The primary goal of the database is to serve as a dynamic scientific resource that provides accurate information to researchers, conservationists and planners to support the protection of bird habitats, nesting sites and geographic distributions.

The importance of the database stems from it’s role in providing vital information that supports researchers and stakeholders in understanding the threats faced by birds in Oman, thereby reinforcing initiatives for sustainable conservation. This digital initiative contributes directly to the national priorities of Oman Vision 2040 to promote a sustainable environment rich in biodiversity.
